Lazarus rebuild: linking never ends...

I've tried rebuilding Lazarus under Freespire 2.0.8, but the process
seemed to stop at linking (e.g. linking ../lazarus). I believe it
because I've left it for about 6 hours (Under Windows, it usually
takes 5-10 minutes only)! Compiling  all units takes less than 2
minutes, but the linking...
FYI, I took FPC from its ftp (version 2.3.1), and Lazarus in the
source form (latest svn). For the binutils, I used version
2.18.20080103 from packages.debian.org.

Try using a stable Free Pascal, i.e. 2.2.0
