Lazarus under GTK2 completely useless?

Can anyone get Lazarus 0.9.24 do do ANYTHING under GTK2?

So far it has deleted Unit1 TWICE upon loading a project.  Thank God
for backups.

Stuck with a panel to the mouse pointer, to the point of having to use
kill -9 to get rid of it.

Crashed constantly with [CRITICAL] clearlooks_style_draw_box_gap:
assertion `height >= -1' upon loading projects.

However, the only way I can get a TImage to handle transparency is
under GTK2.

Any workarounds out there?

I've been using Lazarus under GTK2 for years. Even my Lazarus is
compiled using GTK2. No major problems happened. Lazarus 0.24 on
Ubuntu Gutsy.

It works since Lazarus 9.22 on Ubuntu Feisty.

0.9.24 is working pretty well with gtk2 on my Mandriva 2008
