lazarus install as non root in ubuntu gutsy? lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davesimplewear · 2007-11-01 09:46 Hi, I am running ubuntu gutsy and downloaded lazarus from their repository, the problem I have is once it is installed some components are missing (iusaually database ones) I install the components and rebuild, but some of the components I use in my projects like LazReport I can't install as lazarus is under root, I would like to install lazarus as a non root user, can any one give me a link to a howto or give fairly complete instructions as I am fairly new to Linux can use some commands, but don't know that many. Any help appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2007-11-01 10:21 I would do it like this: 1 - Install Free Pascal normally from the distributions packages 2 - Download the lazarus source to a directory in your user dir. Instructions here: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/Getting_Lazarus 3 - Go to the directory where you put the lazarus source, on the command line and type: make clean all if you want a Gtk 2 IDE you can do: make clean all LCL_PLATFORM=gtk2 You need to have installed all pre-requisite packages for lazarus, which are either gtk1 or gtk2 and gdk_pixbuf development version. Now you can create a link to the startlazarus executable on the desktop and that's it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davesimplewear · 2007-11-03 08:02 Thank you sekel, what I did was download both the fpc and lazarus source and ran make all on both in the home directory now I have the components, but get an error looking for the debugger, went to envoirment  debugger and selected gdb as the debugger but do not know where the executable is located, can someone help please. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wiz · 2007-11-03 16:16 Take a look in /usr/bin, it should be there, if not, it probably isn't installed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davesimplewear · 2007-11-04 02:03 Thanks to all, now working.
