Ubuntu - Lasarus error on start lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hagood · 2007-10-27 22:29 I just started to use Lazarus and it seemed to be working fine. I was just starting a new application when Lazarus crashed and closed everything. When I tried to start Lazarus now it displays the splash screen then a error box appears behind the splash. The Splash goes away leaving the error box that states "TLazProjectDescriptors.RegisterDescriptor Descriptor.Name Empty" The box has two buttons an OK and a Cancel. When I move the cursor into the box the box disappears and I am back at the KDE desk top.  I have removed Lazarus and reinstalled three times but nothing seem so help. Can you?   Thanks Rex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WibblyTim · 2007-10-28 22:25 What version of Ubuntu are you using and what version of Lazarus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hagood · 2007-10-28 23:41 Hi, Thanks for responding.  I am using Feisty Kubuntu and the version of Lazarus is 9.22.  I Downloaded it and installed it using the dpkg -i commands in a terminal window.  Lazarus started and ran fine a few times and then one time I started to do a new application and it crashed.  After the Crash it tries to start but dies with a Error message that shuts things down as soon as you move the cursor onto the message box.  The message box has two options, OK to continue and lose data. and the other to cancel and close the program. It appears that it does the cancel just by moving the cursor over the box. I suspect there is a corrupted file somewhere that does not get removed when I uninstall Lazarus as The same problem appears after I reinstall Lazarus. Could sure use some new ideas as what to try. Thanks Rex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- windy · 2007-10-29 02:39 I had a similar thing happen...once... there should be a backup of the lazarus exectuble try running that the other way is to rename the last project you were working on (the project file (.lpr I think), so that does not try to be loaded at start up and or try , from a shell window, in the lazarus directory, make clean all ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WibblyTim · 2007-10-29 12:59 If you are going to use the make clean all option make sure that you sudo first. This will make sure that it will compile properly in the /usr/lib/lazarus  directory! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hagood · 2007-10-29 15:33 Windy, Thanks for the help. The help did get the problem solved.  I am not sure of the exact corrupt file but I think it was the default project file.  I found a .lazarus directory in my home directory and I deleted it and then Lazarus fired right up and it built a new .lazarus directory.
