Installation on Ubuntu (amd64) lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marmin · 2007-10-27 13:38 This is not a question, but a small guide to install Lazarus 0.9.23 (newest 64bit build) and fpc 2.2.0 on a Ubuntu machine. It's not perfect. This guide only works if you already have a fpc.cfg setup in /etc directory and you have setup al dependencies (glib, all the little things, etc. see faq). My experience is that the RPM installers are the most reliable, the deb installers are not up-to-date and you'll experience dependency-hell. First the usual: fpc: take the 64 bit rpm from the main freepascal site or from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=21478. fpcsrc: take the 64 rpm from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=21478 convert them by using alien. Then install them. Then Lazarus: Take it from the daily snap. convert it. Then install it. Should be no dependency problems. ---- Check fpc.cfg for the right directories (lib64 etc because you have a 64 cpu!.) . Run Lazarus and check the directories. If you get the dreaded 'can't find unit Interfaces'  , you can try to de-install everything and go through the whole process again. (for example, when using lazarus 0.9.22 I got this strange error and with the daily build it was gone.) Make a project and test. This might look simple but one wrong file , dir, and nothing will work. Enjoy it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sipi · 2007-10-29 19:52 I got the same msg after the installation (can't find unit Interfaces). Before this I tried to install everything from the synaptic chanel. Almost the same : can't find Glib. I am getting a little bit disappointed now. Still do not understand why f..k up everything with these difficult installation process instead of writing a good script to install FPC as well as Lazarus. It is just so painful. I don't want to criticize the great job you guys are doing but sometimes it is just not enough to make something amazing, U should be able to sell it too. Marmin, can U help me to install this thing - but please step by step cause I am a beginner in Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antonio · 2007-10-29 20:49 Can this thread help you? http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php? name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=16771 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marmin · 2007-10-30 13:20 Sipi: I assume you have the 64 version. If you get the 'can't find unit Interfaces' error, well then I assume you got fpc, fpcsrc and Lazarus installed. That alone is a good sign If it doesn't work then try to install different versions of Lazarus , search on internet and try. Also try to install the exact same files as I said in my first post, not other ones. I know it's desperate but i'm  no developer of Lazarus and no expert. And I agree there should be an installer with a stable version of all. But this case it is, so many builds and linux versions. Who is going to do it. edit: my advice is only use a *.deb installer for fpc the first time you install it (because it makes config files like fpc.cfg). Don't use synaptics channel for the newest updates of fpc. Use the RPM for updates and convert it. This only counts for ubuntu ofcourse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2007-10-30 16:50 Another thing to check is if the compiler and the target options (compiler options/code tab) match ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sipi · 2007-10-30 18:18 Guys, THNX really! I keep on trying. (No success so far) I think I messed up something with the installation, deinstall...install again. I do not know what sort of files were created and not deleted later on....so it is a mess now. But I am not gonna give up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sipi · 2007-10-30 18:50 This is the latest: FPC: Free Pascal Compiler version 2.2.0 Compiler Date      : 2007/09/10 Compiler CPU Target: x86_64 Supported targets:   Linux for x86-64   FreeBSD for x86-64   Win64 for x64 Supported CPU instruction sets:   ATHLON64 Supported FPU instruction sets:   SOFT   SSE64 Supported Optimizations:   REGVAR   STACKFRAME   LOOPUNROLL   TAILREC This program comes under the GNU General Public Licence For more information read COPYING.FPC Report bugs, suggestions etc to:                  bugs@freepascal.org ---------------------------------------------------- So it seems correct to me After STARTLAZARUS startlazarus TApplication.IconChanged - TODO: convert this message...no implementation in gtk or win32 NOTE: codetools config file not found - using defaults Note: TDefinePool.CreateFPCSrcTemplate UnitSearchPath empty But I do not know where are these config files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sipi · 2007-10-30 20:53 whereis fpc.cfg fpc: /usr/bin/fpc /etc/fpc.cfg~ /usr/lib/fpc /usr/lib64/fpc /usr/local/bin/fpc /usr/local/lib/fpc /usr/man/man1/fpc.1 /usr/share/man/man1/fpc.1.gz So , now I must delete from everywhere manually? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marmin · 2007-10-30 22:58 See the FAQ: '  When compiling lazarus the compiler can not find a unit. e.g.:Fatal: Can't find unit GLIB' it is explained there. If you have Ubuntu it's mostly on /etc/fpc.cfg. leave it there or place it there if it's somewhere else and erase all others. Check if dirs are ok in the config file.
