How a newby could install Lazarus on Fedora 7 .. lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- henry · 2007-10-25 15:23 I apologize for that but I am a poor newby, and I try to install Lazarus on Fedora 7. I found some help on google, but only for internet connected people ... I have installed FPC (although i cannot launch it), but lazarus-0.9.22-0.i386.rpm do not install since it needs gdk* dsependencies. I located them on my hard disk as " *.pas " files. Somebody could be kind enough to explain me how to proceed ? Many thanks by advance. Henry ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antonio · 2007-10-25 17:33 http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus ---------------------------------------------------------------------- henry · 2007-10-25 17:55 thank you antonio for having red my SOS. Unfortunately that does not help me : the wikipedia lazarus installation article do not help greatly a lazarus-lover to intall it on linux. I understand that If you have an internet connection, YUM  import every dependancies (including dependancies of the dependancies ...). Fortunately I think that i have these allready on my hard disk with the fedora 7 release. But I do not know how to point to them when doing the rpm command. I presume it is stupid. But without help, i would have to return back to my horrible window$ OS. Please help me ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Almindor · 2007-10-26 09:07 These are NOT "*.pas" files on your disk. You need libgdk rpms to be installed. Those are C libraries part of the gtk install (and in your distro you need the -dev versions or how does fedora name them). In other words, try to get online at least once and make sure to install all development packages containing "gdk" and "pixbuf" in them. If you don't know what a development package is, ask on your distro forums. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2007-10-26 09:12 What your missing are some gtk libraries (.so files the linux equivalent of .dll's). I don't know fedora good enough to tell you how to install rpms and their dependencies. The command line tool is yum, but there probably is a gui variant too. Try as root: yum install gtk-devel Then install the lazarus rpm. Give exact error messages (smart questions), if it fails. It is possible that gtk-devel is not available on the Fedora CD anymore and that the switch to gtk2 has been made. Then you cannot install the rpm, but have to compile Lazarus from source using: make LCL_PLATFORM=gtk2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- henry · 2007-10-26 09:42 Vincent & Almindor2 : thanks for replying. I tried but got no more : I have pushed a copy of gtk2-devel on the same directory than Lazarus rpm package. Using "yum install /pathOfgtk2-devel gtk2-devel " I got 'does not update installed package". May be it is a problem of path in etc/profile (I don't know exactly whatv is it, but in any case, I have a denied access for modifying this file). Hard ! Do you have another idea ? Thanks by advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2007-10-26 09:46 Use the rpm command to install one package file. Use the yum command to download and install a package (and its dependencies).
