To be root or not to be root lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BuffaloX · 2007-06-22 10:23 I can only add and remove and do other changes to Lazarus as root. This is OK, because root access is needed for write access to where Lazarus installs. But if I try to run Lazarus as user, I get an error: QuoteThe package "etpackage" is installed, but no valid package file (.lpk) was found. A broken dummy package was created. I would like to use Lazarus as user when I program, and only use root when I make changes. Is that possible? Shouldn't that be the "normal" way to use Lazarus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eric · 2007-06-23 09:58 It's far easier to install Lazarus from source and put it in your home directory. If you download an SVN snapshot you can then update it as often as you want with 'svn update' and you don't need to do anything as root. Eric ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BuffaloX · 2007-06-23 19:06 OK I'll do that. Thanx
