Error while linking lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pcwright · 2007-06-05 23:06 After attempting to install the Zeos library and getting an "Error while linking" message, Lazarus would not open again. I reinstalled and ran the compile Lazarus without the Zeos and it did the same thing. The specific message is: usr/lib/ide/lazarus.pp (119,1) Error. Error while linking. This is on OpenSUSE 10.2 and that directory does not exist. I have read about every topic I could find on the subject but found nothing specific. Can anyone offer help? Thanks, P.S Then I searched for that file, lazarus.pp, and found it in /usr/lib/lazarus/ide. So either it is installed in the wrong place or Lazarus is looking for it in the wrong place. Can anyone tell me what to do about this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2007-06-06 06:40 lazarus.pp in ok. Edit fpc.cfg See http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Faq#I_have_SuSE_and_I_g et_.2Fusr.2Fbin.2Fld:_cannot_find_-lgtk_Error:_Error_while_linking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pcwright · 2007-06-06 23:56 I added the line -Fl/usr/lib/lazarus/ide to fpc.conf which got me the same result. The line above the error is CANNOT FIND:/usr/bin/lX11 and I think that's where the error is. I looked at the that the /usr/bin/ and found the following:  /usr/bin/x11        /install-source-utils             /modules        /x11              /install-source-utils                  /modules              /x11                   /install-source-utils                      /modules                   /x11                           ...... This continued for at least 35 iterations, with 1800+ files in each directory, when I quit counting. I don't know that Lazarus wrote all of those copies but I suspect that it did. At any rate it's not able to find /usr/bin/lx11 as it does not exist. I read the comments about Ubuntu and gtk but that doesn't seem to apply. Can you tell me what to do about that? Thanks, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2007-06-07 05:56 I think your installation is broken. Lazarus does not write in /usr/bin/X11. Remove the -Fl line, it is wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pcwright · 2007-06-07 14:39 I sure hate it when I have to read the directions . Ignac's recommendations for a OpenSUSE 10.2 install work just fine if followed. The problem is those devel libraries. They aren't included in the RPM's and you can't build without them. All works fine now. Thanks for your patience,
