I cannot start after install, menu item is wrong lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mmvisual · 2007-01-05 19:35 I cannot start Lazarus after installation. I click: In the menu "Anwenungen" >> "Entwicklung" >> "Entwicklungsumgebug" >> "Lazarus" Then comes an error: Cannot start "/usr/share/lazarus/startlazarus". It is not found. When I look on the disc, there is no directory on this position, it is installed on: "/usr/lib/lazarus" How I can alter the menu item? I use suse 10.1 and gnome and I'm a beginner in linux. Please write me detail information witch file on witch folder I must alter... (I can startlazarus from terminal...) Thank you very much, Markus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zorba · 2007-01-06 04:14 That is not lazarus question but suse/gnome question. Unfortunately (from your question view point) I use KDE, and I don't know gnome that well at all. I also never used Suse, but I imagine it's close to Debian. In Kde menu there is a tool "menu editor" to change and customize the menu. Do you have such tool under Gnome? Try to search suse/gnome boards for possible answers, and maybe someone here knows Gnome and knows how to change the menu will answer, but again not really lazarus issue at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mmvisual · 2007-01-06 11:07 Yes, that I cannot change a menu item is a problem from GNOME ... But the false generated menu item is a problem from the setup paket Lazarus !!! I have change the menu item with the menu editor from KDE. With this change ist works in GNOME, too. PS: I hate Linux, on all positions come up every ten minuts new problems, that wrks not, twis works other. I have install suse 10.1 and now updated to 10.2. The result: The menu is completly new. If Linux developer want become more Linux user, they should do not alter ALL!!! Now I delete all Icons from task-bar, how can I restore it ??? I thing this is a big problem why normal user want use M$ Windows and not Linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eric · 2007-01-06 13:34 Instead of ranting about Linux, can I suggest that you either (a) go back to Windows, or (b) join a Linux forum or two (Suse has two good ones) and learn how to use the OS. Eric ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mmvisual · 2007-01-06 20:12 I must use windows, too. Now I have not all tools in linux available. But I want make programms for linux and M$. I programming Delphi for 5 years and now I have thing I can use Kylix. But Kylix and suse 10.1 are not compatible (I have read in a forum). I have see there a kompatible projekt - the Lazarus. Then I think it looks very good. I have install Lazarus and now it's linux life ... the fist step the installation fails: I have install FPC, then the Lazarus I cannot install, there comes any errors... After restart from Linux, I have can install Lazarus ... Why ?? - OK. linux live. Then I want start Lazarus with the menu item ... ERROR file not found in \usr\share\... But startlazarus from console works well. OK the developer have a lot of work with this complete linux, but this small mistake cost me (I'm beginner) a very very lot of time to find out and correct the mistake. At last I have change with Sax2 the monitor resolution vom 1024 to 1184 Pixel, then reboot and I have no keybord in XWindow.... Linux live ... Why do Linux (the developers) mobbing me user ??? (But I have activated VNC, with the Windows machine I have can over VNC type my password and in 3 hours find and correct the mistake without reinstallation, but the reinstallation where be faster) OK, It is so, I want learn linux, it is new for me and I need time to learn. Using components from Delphi in Lazarus is very difficult. Can You say me in witch Lazarus Unit is the Windows function GetLastError? I have seek all file from Lazarus, but never found. Now I download Debian, I thing there is Lazarus included, then I reinstall my Linux machine. Or is in Debian Lazarus not included? (I have tink I can very easy convert a SQLite3 component to Lazarus, but convert a component with database support is very difficult.) Markus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zorba · 2007-01-06 21:56 Even on Debian lots of times you still want to do things manually because sometimes packages are old in Debian repositories. I usually convert rpm packages with alien and then install using dpkg. It's very straight forward but needs some work like compiling all the extra packages you want in your new lazarus. I use Linux on my day to day desktop and hardly use windows, but when I do I tend to use delphi rather than lazarus due to smaller executables generated for windows. Packages for delphi might not be easy to convert to lazarus for Linux. To date I only used one package made for delphi straight in Lazarus on Linux (took out very little from the USE section) but haven't done any major conversion successfully. So you might want to search the board for packages you are interested in.
