Windows style installer for debian and ubuntu lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jasajona · 2006-12-26 22:01 Hello, Good news everyone I created Windows style installer for debian and ubuntu. Installer is almost identical to installer for windows.  It is actually user friendly dpkg frontend. I guess that would be great idea to put it on sourceforge. Write me, I will contribute installer source, my e-mail is jon@stekas.lt (also I am waiting for comments and bug reports) Here you can get installer: http://jon.stekas.com/lazarus/Lazarus-0.9.20-Linux-x86-Install This file is Linux executable and have to be started with root user and it is not tested well, so try it on your own risk. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-12-27 18:49 Interesting. I asked for testers on the Lazarus mailing list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erik@T · 2007-01-27 18:50 Hmm... I did not work in my case; the installer hang during the installation. It's a nice installer though; looks like Inno Setup   I'm using Linux since a few days, so my experiences with it are very little. That's why I was happy to see this installer. Maybe you could make a little "help for dummies" for it too. Like for Ubuntu: - start a terminal - login as root, type "su" - type command "cd" to go to directory - type command "ls -l" to show dir - make the download an executable by typing "chmod +x filename" - execute the file by typing "./filename" Also, is FreePascall included in the setup? Anyway, I had to use the instructions as written in the Wiki to install it. I thought Linux was easy  :? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CortelliStefano · 2007-01-29 08:43 I join to the request, I'd appreciate very much a "help for dummies" for it. I hope this installer could install even FPC 2.1.1 on Ubuntu. In these days it would arrive me the new pc on which I'd like to install Ubuntu. I'm very afraid because I've no idea for installing FPC 2.1.1. I've studied the Wiki, but as you can see in another message, I've found it difficoult about FPC 2.1.1, or at less I am not able to understand it as I'm new for Linux. I think it would be great to have in the Daily Sanpshots the 2.1.1 Package for Linux, as for Windows or MacOs already is, but at less if it is not possible, I'd appreciate very much a really easy help, steep by steep, in order to install FPC 2.1.1 on Ubuntu and/or other Linux distributions. I've tried to download FPC 2.1.1 sources from the FreePascal web site (in the Lazarus web site I wasn't able to find FPC 2.1.1 for Linux) but I don't know how to now do for installing FPC 2.1.1, in order to continue to use my Lazarus/FPC 2.1.1 that now I use under Windows. This wants to be only a simple request, of course only if possibile, I know Lazarus is under develping so, anyway, a great "thanks" to all the staff for all your work and all your time. I found Lazarus really great and for this I'd be glad to use it under Linux, to be really 100% Open Source... Thank you very very much if someone can help me at this regard. Best regards, Stefano ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erik@T · 2007-01-29 10:33 I think I know what the problem was why the installer did not work in my case. There was another version of FreePascal installed (installer hang at fp-utils) that had to be removed first. I removed it the way as written in the wiki (dpkg -r ). The other version of FreePascal is default not in the Ubuntu-package, but it was there because I was messing a little with different installers... So probably the installer (see above) will work nice on a default Ubuntu.
