Error linking in Suse Linux 10.1

I have SuSE 10.1 and I get /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lpthread
Error: Error while linking

What happened to me is that I couldn't link anything with official
lazarus
What I did is uninstalled everything, instaled newest fpc rpms, and
nightly build lazarus and it went OK on the first attempt

i have the same problem ... i have installed :
fpc-2.0.4-0.i586.rpm
fpc-src-2.0.4-0.i386.rpm
lazarus-0.9.18-0.i386.rpm

what can i do (i use suse 10.1)

You probably need to install the package called glibc-devel

What is missing is a simbolic link to libpthread.so, and this comes on
the glibc-devel package.

I have had so many bugs with suse10.1 that I just uninstalled it and
returned back one step to suse10.0.  I now have upgraded to
openSUSE10.2 and - joy of joys - it is working smoothly. 

Today I jumped in and downloaded Lazarus and FreePascal.  Lazarus
surprised me with its similarity to Delphi.    These are the very
first impressions as I had not programmed in Delphi for some 5 years.
 That's when I did switch to Linux and to Python for programming.

Can I call   Python from Lazarus?  If so, how.

Your answers will be appreciated.  Please be kind to me - I am really,
really old - I am two months away from 82.  But I still play a fairly
mean chess game!

Yes, I solved this same problem by install glibc-devel package.
