Lazarus IDE whithout characters

Hello, I just installed lazarus on my Ubuntu Edgy (6.10) machine
without any problem. But when I start the IDE there are no characters
at all, even the menu's are empty.
Is there anybody how can help me?

Hello everybody,

At least I get my Lazarus working but only with GTK2 on Ubuntu Edgy
Edge.
I know there are problems with the IDE running with GTK2, but now I
can read the menu's and stuff.

I realy hope there is any body that can help me starting Lazarus with
GTK.

Try starting lazarus from the command line. Do you get this message
bellow?

[WARNING] ** Multibyte character encodings (like UTF8) are not
supported at the moment.

If so, this is a FAQ:

Also, Edgy Eft is still beta... are you fully updated? I did update
just yesterday, and it took me quite a few runs of the update-manager
to get everything working; one of the problems I had was missing or
somewhat corrupt fonts in many apps.

Thanks sekel, but I don't have that message, but I'm trying this
tonight.

PS: After some problems update Ubuntu, it now is compltely updated for
about 2 weeks, and all updates are installed.

This is a BIG problem for me also, The Sekel it gave a solution to me,
is here in some topic in the forum.
