LD.SO problem on lazarus make on ubuntu lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2006-07-23 12:36 Version 6.06 of ubuntu fpc installed ok Do a "make clean all" and the process grinds away for some time and then halts as follows: grep: /etc/ld.so.conf: No such file or directory make[2]: Entering directory `/home/iru/lazarus/tools' Makefile:2728: warning: overriding commands for target `.' I am presuming that its absence is the cause of the failure. I have checked through the ubuntu application install and thier web site found nothing on ld.so which appears to be an ancient dynamic linker. A search on the internet has not helped much. Any ideas at all???? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-07-23 15:16 Install the binutils using the package manager of your OS. It wouldn't surprise me, if your distro didn't install several devel packages. See for more details the FAQ on the wiki. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2006-07-24 11:24 I have had a read around the faq and wiki. All sorts of similar stories of bits missing, etc. I have had a look at the relevant ( I think ) installed packages on ubuntu 6.06. They are   binutils   binutils-dev   binutils-doc   binutils-static Other binutil-? packages on the system but not installed/enabled do not appear relevant to this untrained eye. I have a ld.so.cache file, also a ld.so,hwcappkgs but no ld.so.local!!!! My problem is on the "desktop" version, the same problem also appears to be on the "server" version (by checking on the presence of the ld.so.con file). Thank you for your response. Any more help appreciated. Ian ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-07-24 11:30 AFAIK, the problem is not ld.so, bit just ld. What happens if you type Code: [Select]ld -v in a console? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2006-08-06 06:21 Thanks for the response. I have been busy and have only just got back to the Lazarus install. Sure enough no ld. Chased around the Synaptic package manager, Took a guess or two on what libraries to load. The Lazarus install progressed further  and then complained about another missing library. Found a web site which addressed this problem. Loaded more libraries. Up came Lazarus complaining about missing FPC source and something about 2 byte fonts. More downloads, set a couple of environment variables and away we go......... I must say that I am quietly impressed with ubuntu and especially the Synaptic package manager. Thanks once again, Ian
