linker error Making lazarus lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- David · 2006-05-22 13:50 Hi, I'm crossposting with the mailing list (sorry if I shouldn't). I'm trying to install lazarus (for over a week - new on Linux too) and now I get this error: QuoteFree Pascal Compiler version 2.0.2 [2005/12/07] for i386 Copyright (c) 1993-2005 by Florian Klaempfl Target OS: Linux for i386 Compiling lazarus.pp Linking ../lazarus lazarus.pp(113,1) Error: Can't call the linker, switching to external linking make[2]: *** [lazarus] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/mnt/win-c/pascal-linux/lazarus/ide' make[1]: *** [ide] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/win-c/pascal-linux/lazarus/ide' make: *** [ide] Error 2 Any ideas?? Thanks. David. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eric · 2006-05-25 10:07 It looks as though your system hasn't got a linker installed. You need the gnu binutils package. Eric ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jgrace5 · 2006-05-31 20:53 I have debian unstable with the latest goodies, fpc 2.0.2 installed and working and the glib and gtk and pixbuf and whatever installed.  The lazarus that I can install from the rpm with alien doesn't work on its own because it can't find libglib-1.2.so.  So I try a rebuild from the source included in /usr/lib/lazarus. When linking the source to lazarus in the /usr/lib/lazarus directory, I get "-lglib not found".  Ok, I made a link of libglib.a -> libglib-2.0.a, libgdk_pixbuf.a -> libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.a and libgdk.a -> libgdk_x11-2.0.a, etc. Now the linker finds the libraries or doesn't complain anymore.  However, after 15 seconds of thinking about it, the linker "explodes" with a million lines of cannot find g_this and cannot find g_that and cannot find gdk_that and cannot find cairo_blah (about 60 lines of compaints). What's my mistake here? Jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-05-31 21:16 You made symlinks to gtk2 libs instead of gtk(1) libs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-06-01 00:27 Yes, perhaps this should be prominent in the README or FAQ, but GTK2 support in Lazarus is incomplete and not a priority. Stick with GTK1 and you shouldn't have any major problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-06-01 15:23 Why doesn't Debian have the symbolic links already for the libraries? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-06-06 12:16 That's a good question. The same is true for Suse 9.3. For some reasons also the links in /usr/X11R6/lib to libX11 and libXi are missing. They have symlinks from libfoo.so.x to libfoo.x.yy, but some of the libfoo.so to libfoo.so.x are missing. Quiet annoying. Ciao Tom
