Error when installing fpc-2.0.2-0.src.rpm lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peterolivier · 2006-03-17 18:33 i've downloaded the following packages: fpc-2.0.2-0.i386.rpm fpc-2.0.2-0.src.rpm lazarus-0.9.12-0.i386.rpm installing the first works just fine, but when i install the second i get the following error: following packages haven't been found on medium: fpc when i look in yast the first package seems to be installed! i'm using suse linux 10 - 5CD version ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pfranchuk · 2006-03-18 04:31 First, the source package you want is fpcsrc-2.0.2-0rpm. It will install the fpc source files that lazarus will use. To use Yast, put those three into a directory. Click on any one of them and choose "Use directory as Source for Yast". After you give the root password, you will get a confirmation that it has been added. Fire up Yast and manage programs. Search for fpc and lazarus and choose install for the three files. This will install everything you need. I found that trying to do them one at a time would give me that media error. Now the preparation. As root, add -Fl/opt/gnome/lib into the library search section of /etc/fpc.cfg . If you want to be able to work with examples or install components later, you have to change permissions on the lazarus tree: (Still as root) cd /usr/lib chgrp -R xxxx lazarus chmod -R g+w lazarus Where xxxx is a group that you as a normal user belong to. I added myself to devel and use that as the group name. Change back to normal user  and in a terminal type lazarus. Once it starts up, under tools rebuild lazarus. You will then have a working copy of the program  as ~/.lazarus/bin/lazarus  . I create a desktop icon to point to this copy for ease of starting. If you ever add components, this is the copy of the program that will hold your additions (not the one in /usr/lib). Peter ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pfranchuk · 2006-03-18 04:56 Oops, I forgot. fpc and lazarus have dependencies that you can take care of when install the three files. If you did your install from the DVD, have it inserted when you do the fpc/lazarus install. If you used CD to install, set up an ftp or http mirror as a source (see openSuSE site for info), your dependencies will be taken care of except for gtk+-dev which you can ignore. That is a naming problem with SuSE, just as the location problem with the gtk libs (that is taken care of by the addition to fpc.cfg). Good luck, and post back if you have more problems. Peter
