moving to svn , can't compile fpc lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-27 15:34 Hi, I have a working fpc-2.0.0 and lazarus will compile and run a simple project, all seems in order. I have just one /etc/fpc.cfg correctly setup for fpc-2.0.0 on this system. I would like to move to svn versions of fpc since there has been a lot of work since 2.0.0 I did a checkout of fpcbuild yesterday but it fails to make . I have tried make all both from the fpcbuild level and from fpcsrc , rtl builds OK but both fail in the same way whilest compiling 'units' : Code: [Select] 25: Error: can't resolve `.Lc3249' {*UND* section} - `.Lc3248' {*UND* section} /opt/svn/fpcbuild/trunk/fpcsrc/rtl/units/i386- linux/system.sl/system0s1475.s:12536: Error: can't resolve `.Lc3252' {*UND* section} - `.Lc3251' {*UND* section} threadvr.inc(30,25) Error: Error while assembling exitcode 1 /usr/bin/ar: creating /opt/svn/fpcbuild/trunk/fpcsrc/rtl/units/i386-linux/libpsystem.a threadvr.inc(30,25) Fatal: There were 2 errors compiling module, stopping threadvr.inc(30,25) Fatal: Compilation aborted make[4]: *** [system.ppu] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/opt/svn/fpcbuild/trunk/fpcsrc/rtl/linux' make[3]: *** [fpc_shared] Error 2 googling gets nothing similar to this. Am I missing a step here? Thanks . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-01-27 15:44 ATM fpc 2.1.1 cannot be made. (Work in progress) Try again later. Depending on your exact needs, you can use fpc 2.0.2 or fpc 2.0.3 from the fixes branch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-27 15:46 many thanks , I thought it was a dumb error on my part. thanks for the quick response. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-28 15:24 OK , I moved to the 2.0.3 branch , ran make all then make install I have clean compilation of 2.0.3 and have made the necessay adjustments to /etc/fpc.cfg for the units paths now trying to make svn lazarus I get the old "cant find glib unit" so I check my fpc version and it reports 2.0.0 Quote bash-3.00#which fpc /usr/local/bin/fpc bash-3.00#fpc -i Free Pascal Compiler version 2.0.0 Compiler Date      : 2006/01/27 Compiler CPU Target: i386 now my original fpc was /usr/bin/fpc so it appears have installed . Shouldn't I now expect to see 2.0.3 returned? Anticipating the next problem is the glib error indicating a failure to find glib.ppu or the actual library , I get the impression this message is not reporting the root cause of the error. Thanks again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-28 15:34 PS Quote bash-3.00#ls /usr/local/lib/fpc/2.0.3/units/i386-linux/gtk/glib* /usr/local/lib/fpc/2.0.3/units/i386-linux/gtk/glib.o /usr/local/lib/fpc/2.0.3/units/i386-linux/gtk/glib.ppu ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-29 18:44 Hmm , 2.0.3 branch seems to have been zapped. I'm still having some difficulty determining what is what here. I did a svn update , removed the timestamp to be sure to force a build then rebuild 2.0.2 : make build ; make install. which fpc returns /usr/local/bin/fpc `which fpc` -i Free Pascal Compiler version 2.0.0 Compiler Date      : 2006/01/27 Compiler CPU Target: i386 bash-3.00#pwd /usr/local/lib/fpc/2.0.3 bash-3.00#ppc386 -v Free Pascal Compiler version 2.0.0 [2006/01/27] for i386 Copyright (c) 1993-2005 by Florian Klaempfl Fatal: No source file name in command line Error: Compilation aborted So assume that fpc is a generic wrapper that calls ppc386 . What is a bit confusing is that they both show 2.0.2 but different dates. I'm still getting blocked in building svn lazarus byt the glib error. But I have no way of telling if it is really a path problem for glib or its an artifact of a mismatch in the compiler builds. My main interest is to get past the Xoffset gtk2 bug in lazarus but until I can build it I'm stuck. Can anyone explain which way I need to look at this? TIA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mikiwoz · 2006-01-30 12:16 maybe a dumb question, but... why don't you give rpms a try? I mean the rpm built daily from the SVN? They worked OK for me - alienated (I'm on Kubuntu), installed, run Lazarus, recompiled it for GTK2 and compiled a project in it. Cheers mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-30 19:15 Well I have solved it in a way but I'm not sure if it's the "right way". I simlinked /usr/local/lib/.....ppc386 to /usr/local/bin which is in the path . It all now compiles and runs and gives sensible version info. I'd still like to understand the relationship of fpc and ppc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2006-01-30 20:46 That is the right thing to do: Code: [Select]make symlinkinstall is the make target to automate it. A good, but maybe too thorough, read is the Build FAQ.
