how do i use gtk lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hrvoje · 2005-12-17 16:17 Hello, I just installed Lazarus on Linux and it looks like a plain x11 application and the gui of the application I create is also plain x11. How could I use gtk? Is there an option I missed when I compiled Lazarus? Hrvoje ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SergKam · 2005-12-17 16:27 Lazarus and LCL don`t use plain X11. only GTK1(and soon 2) or WIN32api. It is mast be one of GTK skin. tray GTKthem-swicher. GTK may look like win32 or MacX or Motiff or Keramik(Geramik) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-17 16:54 Well then it reminds me of X. I just want my application to look like the Gnome application. Is that possible? I tried to rebuild Lazarus against gtk2 and gnome (LCL interface) and I get: make[2]: *** [../../units/i386-linux/gnome] Error 1 or make[2]: *** [../../units/i386-linux/gtk2] Error 1 - the directories gnome and gtk2 don't exsist What do I have to install to make this poissible. I tried to install gtk2 bindings but the sources don't compile I get "overflow in arithmetic operation" error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2005-12-18 04:12 You don't have to install gtk2 bindings ... they already are installed by default with lazarus and fpc and fpcsrc packages. gnome really isn't updated anymore, as it is very old, but I recompiled my LCL against gtk2 about 2 months ago. By the way, recompile only the LCL against gtk2. Set LCL to "clean+build" and everything else to "None" on the build configuration dialog and then try to build lazarus again. The directories you pointed at are probably output directories for the compiled units, so they can't exist if you haven't already compiled the LCL for that widget. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-18 09:41 I'll try it today it wa maybe a permission problem then. But when I recompile it will against gtk2 will my programs look like gnome programs or there is something I must do to make them? What is 'gnome' for then? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2005-12-18 10:13 gnome is an old widget witch isn´t used anymore after the arrise of GTK2. It was created when gtk2 was not available to address some of the problems of gtk1. And yes, gtk2 tends to look better then gtk1 AFAIK. But I don´t think your problem is related just to the gtk1 / gtk2 problem. Where is your program going to be used? Really, different distros install different themes by default so you may thing you got the right visual but the program may look very different on the computer it is going to be used. If I were you I would test on other Linux machines. This is more of a theme problem then gtk problem. My programs look like normal Linux program on my machine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-18 14:11 Well, it has to addopt the gnome theme that is used! What do you mean by 'normal linux program' That can be x11, gnome or kde. And all gnome and kde programs change their look when the theme is changed.  Can that be done with gtk2 or must I use 'gnome1'? Is the difference between gnome1 and gnome2 look too big?   I'm trying to write a program that will download Debian/Ubuntu packages and the packages could be installed on another machine. It has to work on Linux and Windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2005-12-18 16:22 On the widgets list there is no gnome1 and gnome2, there is only gnome and you should not use it AFAIK because it is not maintained anymore. You should use gtk1 or gtk2. Can you place screenshots of your program and another program on your machine? As this is a visual problem this could help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-18 23:54 Hmm... I can't compile lazarus with gtk2 - it complains about XOFFSET - unknown record field identifier... I have to give it a look first. Maybe I'm missing some packages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2005-12-19 02:09 What is your Lazarus version? I just compiled Lazarus LCL for gtk2 without any problems using the latest lazarus from subversion. Make sure to go to "Tools -->> Configure Build Lazarus" and check LCL to build+clean and everything else to None. You don't want to rebuild everything, just the LCL. Then try again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-19 07:55 No, still the same. 0.9.10. I'm using Ubuntu and there are problems with that rpms when you convert them to debs so i had to compile it from sources which went ok. Don't bother too much - I read the guide very fast. I'll fix it and put the screenshot... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2005-12-19 10:52 Quote from: "Anonymous"Hmm... This is a bug in the lazarus 0.9.10 source. It has been fixed in the SVN version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-20 21:46 Nice Now I don't have to search what packages I'm missing )
