Package will install on "next start" lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-05-31 18:36 I compiled a component package. (The JPEG one) and it all vent just fine. Lazarus restarted itself after rebuilding, but there was not sign of the components. I looked the the compoenent graph and it says "Install on next start" So I quite Lazarus, start it again, but the message stays there. What am I doing wrong? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- matthijs · 2005-05-31 18:40 What OS are you running? Is the proper Lazarus version started? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-05-31 18:59 I am running Lazarus on Gentoo Linux The only version I have is 0.9.6 and FPC 1.9.8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- matthijs · 2005-05-31 20:31 On linux: If you installed Lazarus as root, you'll probably need to install packages as root as well. So try to start lazarus as root and build it again. Or make sure you have write right in the lazarus directory tree. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-05-31 23:35 Ok. - I copied the components folder out of the lazarus folder structure and gave it full permissions. did not work - I changed the WHOLE lazarus folder and all subfolders so that I am the owner rather than root. Did not work - I finally gave up - started lazarus asa root and compiled the stuff in - that worked. THANKS for the suggestion. It would be nice to know which file(s) need to have write permission so that users can install components as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-06-01 00:49 Quote from: "djogon"I am running Lazarus on Gentoo Linux The only version I have is 0.9.6 and FPC 1.9.8While it is easy and convenient to install FPC and Lazarus via Portage, the down side is that the versions available are not very current, even using the unstable mask (which is suprising to me as other Gentoo stuff gets updated pretty quick). The other thing is that Portage (and probably RPM or Apt-get) will install Lazarus into the /usr directory so there are permissions issues when re-building Lazarus. The best way I find is to use CVS. For FPC I CVS download as root and user. I install as root (due to install permission problems), and user has his own download for sources access. For Lazarus I just download as user, and run Lazarus out of the user CVS download directory (only"make", no "make install" done). Result = Uptodate with no permission problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-06-01 04:19 Good suggestion. I wonder if it actually makes sence to create a "private" addition to Portage for Lazarus and FPC. But simple script can do it all anyway - get the latest CVS, compile and so on ... I will give it a shot. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-06-01 04:41 Quote from: "djogon"Good suggestion. I wonder if it actually makes sence to create a "private" addition to Portage for Lazarus and FPC. For FPC, having both portage and CVS versions is probably a real bad idea. I only have the CVS FPC installed, but for Lazarus I actually have both the portage and CVS versions installed. Since the CVS version resides in its own user directory, there are no conflicts. I don't actualy need the portage Lazarus, I don't use it much. It's mostly for back-up use.
