Package install always fails gtkgl library not found/missing lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-05-31 17:19 Not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't find a better one so here goes... I installed Lazarus with absolutely no problems on my Gentoo Linux, but then wanted to install some of the additional packages that come with it. (LazHTMLLite) and some other ones. Compiling goes fine, but linking ALWAYS produces the dreaded /ld: cannot find -lgtkgl I did search for the solution first. I understand that there may be devel gtkgl library that I am missing, but I can't find one anywhere. I have the include files for the libraries located at /usr/include/gtkgl-2.0/gtkgl/ Anyone? Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djogon · 2005-05-31 18:25 Ok I got this somewhat resolved... I created a sym link  libgtkgl.so from libgtkgl-20.so A few concernes though. 1) The message "/ld: cannot find -lgtkgl " assumes that everyone in the world knows that what it actually means is that file "libgtkgl.so" is missing! This should be fixed. 2) Although I fixed it - I am not sure about my linking to a specific version manually. How do I maintain this. There was obviously a reason why my Gentoo system did not create that link, but IT was able to compile Lazarus without problems. (Gentoo always compiles everything) Now the components did not show up so I looked at the compoenet graph. In there it says link to GTKGL version 1.x I don't have version 1 - maybe that's why it wasn't showing up in the IDE. Now - which actual development package contains GTKGL 1.x version ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2005-06-01 17:05 1) this is the output of the ld linker and not from Lazarus or FPC (therefore it is a FAQ) 2) that is what devel packages do (besides placing some header files)
