Lazarus Ubuntu tgz lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caramel · 2005-05-27 06:07 Hi, I am trying to install lazarus on Ubuntu (with fpc 2.0 already installed). I donwloaded the .tgz. I untar I do : "make clean all" I have the error : Compiling actnlist.pas Compiling controls.pp Compiling propertystorage.pas Fatal: Can't find unit RTLConst Error: Compilation aborted make[1]: *** [alllclunits.ppu] Erreur 1 make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /home/patrice/Desktop/lazarus/lcl » make: *** [lcl] Erreur 2 can you help me? Thank you Caramel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-05-27 06:23 If by chance you already had lazarus installed before and are re- installing, you could try renaming or deleting the .lazarus directory in your user directory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2005-05-27 06:34 I guess you got the lazarus source by downloading the source.tgz of lazarus 0.9.6. To compile with fpc 2.0 you need a more recent version, from the CVS repositry. Source from CVS explains how you can get it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-05-27 06:36 Quote from: "glober"If by chance you already had lazarus installed before and are re-installing, you could try renaming or deleting the .lazarus directory in your user directory. On the other hand that will probably only affect things when you re- build from lazarus itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caramel · 2005-05-27 07:31 thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BoBoB · 2005-05-30 16:00 Quote from: "Vincent"Source from CVS explains how you can get it. Someone should rewrite that "howto", it's probably a Windows user who wrote it in the first place. Linux is case sensitive, SET does not work. I have tried all combinations of the "examples" on the "cvs howto" page without ever getting a single byte out of the cvs repository. I'm a cvs newbie, and what I really need is a simple working example of how to grab all files needed to get the latest Lazarus and FPC source from cvs. I managed to compile Lazarus from some zipped cvs snapshot download, but it's frustrating to read comments like "This is fixed in cvs" and being unable to get an updated source right away. I'm frustrated after spending several weeks to get this thing up and running, and I'm also starting to get a creepy feeling that there is mostly Windows Lazarus users out there..  :O Off topic: A good example of a Delphi compatible fpc.cfg that compiles Zeosdb would also be great, since none of the FreePascal RPM's are able to produce a decent fpc.cfg. Or even better, a Debian package of earlier versions of FPC, I wasted several hours just to find out that such a thing does not exist. Does freepascal.org suffer from low disk capacity, or is there a hidden "previous versions debian package" repository out there? -- Robert Running Ubuntu, the best distro EVER! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-05-31 01:26 Quote from: "caramel"I am trying to install lazarus on Ubuntu (with fpc 2.0 already installed). Only use "make". It messes things up. You get missing units. Too many things get cleaned out and changed. To the point where, in my case, doing a CVS update or CVS checkout or even copying a backed-up directory, to rectify the situation, did not work. I had to start from scratch, delete the lazarus directory, and do a fresh CVS checkout! This should be mentioned in lazarus documentation somewhere. This may not apply if you manualy add the nessesary paths of all the missing unit files to the fpc.cfg file. Don't know for sure as I haven't tried that. I have also noticed a similar situation happens when, if you change certain Lazarus source code, make remembers what file you had failure compiling and you get into this missing unit problem loop, out of which there is no easy way. fpc.cfg??? Anybody know more about this? for us budding Lazarus hackers? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-05-31 02:15 Quote from: "BoBoB"Someone should rewrite that "howto", it's probably a Windows user who wrote it in the first place.I agree with you on that, unfortunately that "howto" web page is not in the lazarus/wiki format, so can't edit it. QuoteLinux is case sensitive, SET does not work. For Linux do not use SET, use: Code: [Select]export CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@cvs.freepascal.org:/FPC/CVS Otherwise Code: [Select]cvs login cvs -z3 checkout lazarus cvs -z3 update lazarus Work the same as in windows. This all assumes that you installed and cofigured your CVS utility properly in the first place. The best place for install info is probably here. One tricky thing if I recall my experience, is that you have to setup a "CVSROOT" user and "CVS" group and include CVSROOT and users in the CVS group, for things to work. Once things are set up it's pretty easy to use with the above commands. One small detail to keep in mind is that CVS makes up the Lazarus download directory in whatever directory that you issue the CVS commands in. QuoteI'm a cvs newbie, and what I really need is a simple working example of how to grab all files needed to get the latest Lazarus and FPC source from cvs.If you are going to use FPC from cvs, you probably want to grab and install that as root. Lazarus works fine if you just download and use as a non-root user, just run "make" and not "make install", and run out of the CVS Lazarus directory. QuoteI'm also starting to get a creepy feeling that there is mostly Windows Lazarus users out there..  :OA happy Gentoo user over here ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2005-05-31 12:34 I guess the majority of users are windows users, the majority of developers are linux users. I don' know any developer using the Ubuntu distribution. Please feel free to update the Getting Lazarus. If it is perfect, the link to Sources from CVS can be replaced by this page. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- matthijs · 2005-05-31 12:59 I just paste my lazarus cvs download shell script on the page mentioned by Vincent. Maybe you can use it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fab25 · 2005-11-11 15:00 to install lazarus on Ubuntu, do as follows : download the rpms. use alien -c to convert them (the -c is what makes it functionnal) then everything should be allright except that UTF8 gives you a warning message.
