Using ambient variables such as $HOME

Does any one nows how can I get thins inside Lazarus?? Or even another
way to know wich is the home folder of the actual user....

This works under Linux, but it doesnot work under Windows. Under
Windows you have to get the HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH. So there is not a
platform independant way to do this. (At least not that I know of  )
