Lazarus stopped starting

I've installed Lazarus on my Mandrake 10 machine and have used it a
number of times.  Suddenly it won't start unless I am root.  When not
root I get the splash screen and then an "Access Violation" error
dialog and Lazarus shuts down.

When started from the command line I get:

I've tried reinstalling but it still does the same thing.  Any
suggestions?

Are you sure you have write access on all your dirs ?

Remove or rename the .lazarus directory located into your home
directory then start lazarus. It' s enough!
