Installation as Root doesn't apply to user lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas · 2004-08-28 11:34 Hi! I installed Lazarus and Freepascal as user root on my Suse 8.2 system and got it working. The standard works fine as well when I'm logged in as user. Now I installed some components (CGI and MySQL for example), again as root. After some problems it worked fine. But: this components don't appear when I log in as normal user. What am I doing wrong? A second question is about the usage of the database components. In Delphi/Kylix I am used to a sequence of TDatasource -> TDatabase -> TDataset - now I haven't found any possibility to connect TDatabase and TDataset (in this case the MySQL-Component). And last I would like to congratulate the Lazarus and FPC-Team. Te project developed fine until I last took a look at the project. Now I think I will use it for productive products. Thanks for any Help Thomas ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2004-08-28 12:03 Hi, Thins is Thomas again. I've reproduced the error message which says: "the package MySQLLaz is installed but no valid package file was found. A broken dummy package was created." Best wishes Thomas ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2004-08-29 11:21 I'm answering my own question(s): When installing components as root but work as user you need to repeat the procedure to install components. Then they will appear. Regarding the MySQL-connection the following snippet gives the connection:    MySQLDataset1.DataBase := MySQLDatabase1;    MySQLDataset1.Active := true; Regards Thomas
