[Solved] Zorin. Updating packages - error on ide rebuild. lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2025-08-16 05:22 Environment: lenovo T460s, mem 8G, hd 256G. Zorin: 17.3.core. Lazarus 4.2. Problem: Lazarus installs OK, add a couple of unit1 form, compiles and executes OK. Problem occurs when using the On Line package manager. Select BGRA build buttons (have read the directions on GitHub). Click on 'Rebuild the IDE'. Rebuild then fails with: Warning: linker: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lGL: No such file or directory make[2]: *** [Makefile:4463: lazarus] Error 1 make[1]: *** [Makefile:4909: ide] Error 2 *** [Makefile(3168,0) Error: linker: ide] Error 2 No idea what/where '-IGL' is. Which Makefile??? Checked /usr/share/lazarus/4.2.0 the Makefile there is not large enough for errors 4463 and 4909. Any help/insparation appreciated. Ian. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobby100 · 2025-08-16 05:29 You are missing OpenGL dev package. Install it from your OS' package manager. -lGL means something like libGL, and for the linker you need the DEV package for libGL. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cdbc · 2025-08-16 05:31 Hi Somehow, the linker cannot find the 'OpenGL' libraries on your system...?!? "-lGL" means /link-in GL-library/ Regards Benny ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2025-08-17 04:59 Gentlemen, Thank you both for your instructions - OpenGl is installed..... However the rebuild process now fails with Warning: linker: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXtst: No such file or directory. It looks like there is another missing library. 'Xtst'???? Can anyone help with a library name??? I went looking for a library 'libXtst' on the system - not there. There is 'libXtst6' which I presume is a later version of 'libXtst'.... Searched through /usr/share/lazarus/4.2.0 and /home/iru/.lazarus looking for anything that performs a load of 'libXtst' with a view to modifying it to 'libXtst6'. No luck so far...... Ian. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2025-08-17 11:25 Gentlefolk, Following the installation process described by Handoko with 'Installing Lazarus 1.8.4 on Ubuntu 18.04' reply #6. In /home/iru/.lazarus/bin I find multiple link.res files all differentiated by a number link.res, Selected the most recent file and way down at line 2421 I find INPUT( -lpthread -ldl -lgdk-x11-2.0 -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lX11 -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lgthread-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lpango-1.0 -lcairo -latk-1.0 -lutil -lGL -lm -lpangocairo-1.0 -lXtst -lrt ) So there is 'GL' and 'Xtst'. So what builds the link.res file????? I not know about Zorin but have knowledge for Debian. Debian make use XXX-dev package for file-link to version number in use. Please consult Zorin manual or maybe someone else use Zorin and know how versioning libraries make work for Zorin. PS: I read zorin = ubuntu and know ubuntu = debian so should work same and not worry about version. Make install dev package for library to fix version issue. Wiki write same. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iru · 2025-08-18 07:14 Gentlefolk, I read a lot of things and: Came to the conclusion that libXtst6 was not what was needed. Removed it. Went looking for libXtst. Found nothing. Read some more and came to the conclusion that libxtst-dev was required. Installed it. I and now rebuild the Lazarus IDE after importing packages via the On- Line-Package!!!! Thanks for the help/interest. Ian.
