MAC address spoofing lainchan / sec ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yamaoto Toshi · 2018-09-02 08:51 How do you go about spoofing your mac address? I was about to write a script to just cycle through a list of mac addresses via macchanger. How do your scripts look like? Is there anything interesting you would like to share on that topic? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Turner · 2018-09-03 20:02 NetworkManager v1.4.2+ has a built in MAC spoofing feature. The Qubes OS docs have a nice page on it. https://www.qubes- os.org/doc/anonymizing-your-mac-address/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hagbard Celine · 2018-09-04 20:09 > OP here >>5771 It's apparently a lot simpler than I thought. Just writing [device] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes [connection] wifi.cloned-mac-address=stable ethernet.cloned-mac-address=stable connection.stable-id=${CONNECTION}/${BOOT} into /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/00-macrandomize.conf did the trick. :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cat Mother · 2018-09-04 23:37 Absolutely random MAC address = suspicious. You should cycle through legit vendor MAC addresses and not connect to other networks as a thermostat. You should also consider browser fingerprint since many public networks have a remote captive portal which serves ads and runs god knows what scripts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pris · 2018-09-05 02:46 >>5791 So what if it's suspicious? What are they going to do about it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Joey · 2018-09-05 04:27 >>5792 It makes you unique and identifiable - the opposite you want to be.
