Ball Lightning When I was a kid my family took a vacation in Yellowstone. At Old Faithful, we went into the lodge just to check it out. I was climbing some stairs to go to the upper level, the stairs were carpetted and the ceiling made of logs with tiny gaps between the logs (presumably sealed with ... something?) A thin blue thread of lightning flashed before me a couple of steps away. It extended from the carpet of the step up through a gap between two of the logs in the ceiling. It didn't harm me, make a noise, wasn't blindingly bright, didn't leave a mark (not even on the carpet), and as far as I can tell no one else noticed it. I have, over the years, tried to tell this tale to whomever would listen but invariably the response is a blank look of disbelief (without actually calling me a liar). A couple days ago I was talking with my brother over email who has been vacationing in Montana and the cabin he was staying in reminded me of the one we stayed in on this Yellowstone trip. He was pretty young at the time so didn't remember too much about that trip but one thing he did remember was seeing ball lightning that very night, in that lodge. Here's what he said: "...and seeing (what I now believe was) ball lightning *inside* the lodge, when we were on the upper mezzanine during a crazy storm. I clearly remember what looked like a small ball of light crawl up through the floor of the 'catwalk' we were walking on, and go straight up through the ceiling. Everyone was too distracted by some employee doing something on the roof out of the window nearby, and didn't see it. At the time I thought it may have been a ghost or something." ----- Curious, what is the least explainable thing(s) you've witnessed? Did you ever talk to anyone about it? What did they say, did they believe you? Come to the BBS (telnet to mutinybbs.com:2300) and find this post on the bulletin board and give me your responses. .
