Divarin Radio aka: Dusty Old Tomes streaming to you 24/7 In a previous phlog post I talked about experimenting with setting up an internet radio station of my own, outside of aNONradio, originally as a way to get Chips 'n Dip on the air last week due to some technical difficulties that they were having over there. That, it turned out, was unnecessary but it did get me playing around with an audio streaming server and now I've decided to start one with an Auto-DJ running. I didn't want to do music because everyone does that. What I wanted to do is probably pretty boring to most people unless you're a particular kind of nerd like me, a nerd that appreciates the intersection between technology and history. My Auto DJ is running some of the content I've processed in my "Yesterday's Tomorrow" endeavor, as well as other tech related content from the same era (early to mid 1990's). This includes older episodes of Off The Hook, audio from Cranky Geeks (an early web video show with John C. Dvorak and guests), select episodes of "Net Cafe" (the show Stewart Cheifet did after Computer Chronicles) and anything else I find interesting and remains interesting after removing the video (if there is video). I also have one episode of "The Screen Savers" and plan to add more but this is a bit more difficult, it requires a lot more editing on my part (removing commercials and other audio processing) and some episodes of this show might not be very entertaining without video. Also most of The Screen Savers episodes that managed to get archived on the net are from the early G4 era. The Screen Savers went through three eras: the ZD-TV era, the Tech TV era, then the G4-Tech TV era. This was a time when the network was being retooled to focus on video games and target a younger audience, making The Screen Savers less interesting from an historical/archival perspective, at least in my opinion. I have 1 gb of Auto-DJ storage which is about 1/2 full right now. I'll probably add one or two things every day, more or less at random. When the storage is full I'll begin pulling the oldest thing so that the playlist is constantly changing. You can find it at https://divarin.net. I also plan on using this site is kind of a "hub" for all things me: Links to: Chip 'n Dip, Mutiny BBS, my gopher server, Black Castle Software (haven't touched this in years but it still exists so why not), of course the RSS feeds for KRAB-FM archive and Yesterday's Tomorrow, and anything else that I can think of. But as of time of this writing it's an extremely basic and boring looking page. I'll be fixing it up and linking to things gradually over the next couple weeks. .
