My answers to Christyotwisty's 5 questions from March 2026: gopher://sdf.org/1/users/christyotwisty Question 1: If you could own a restaurant, what type would it be? My Answer: Completely impractical, probably a violation of multiple health board rules, and a total waste of the world's resources but just for fun: My restaurant is called "Food Fighters". It's a non-stop food fight, from open to close. There's food coming out of the kitchen and/or bakery and you can eat it or throw it. If you catch something tasty take a bite or just close your eyes and open your mouth for a surprise! (don't come here if you have food allergies) Question 2: What is a good way to comfort someone afraid of dying? My Answer: I don't have a good answer for this. I watched my mom die while on life support but she was so drugged up I couldn't really communicate with her. She was a christian and I an atheist. My sister was also there and she, too, is a christian. I was mostly trying to comfort my sister as my mom was not conscious most of the time. My sister would say things like "you're going to be with god now", I couldn't bring myself to say things that I believe are lies to either of them but I at least kept my beliefs to myself in this matter, all I could do was be there and show that I loved my mom and she wasn't alone. But it was painful to have no comforting words of my own. Question 3: Share a fun science fact. My Answer: If you turn on a (probably older) analog TV, not tuned to a station (there should be no analog stations anymore), that black and white snow is mostly a transmission from the sun, and a little bit from other suns and even a bit more from the cosmic background radiation. It's the noise of the cosmos. And if you stare at it long enough you start to see things. Although those are either figments of your imagination or a weak pirate tv station :) Question 4: Share a maxim or truism you're fond of. My Answer: I'm sure there are expressions for this but none are coming to mind right now so I'll just put it in my own words: The people who speak the most, know the least, and usually vice-versa. Basically, communication is "half duplex", you can listen and learn or you can run your mouth off but you can't do both at the same time. Question 5: What is the oldest electrical appliance you use on a daily or almost daily basis? My Answer: If you consider it an "appliance" my Commodore 128, which I use to call C= BBSs almost every day. If you don't consider that to be an appliance then I have a toaster from around the same era (mid 80's). I have older computers but not that I use on a semi-daily basis. .
