Committee functions: Jay & Alida Alida asked that we consider the following things to do in our committee. o Flip Chart -- Is it okay for us to utilize a flip chart to record questions that come up so that they can be assigned to a member to research? (Yes.) o Research -- Jay and Alida will do as much research as they can, understanding that the committee members are very busy. o Ground rules -- *Discussion of this was tabled until after the 2-day workshop.* o Coaching -- Jay and Alida are coaching this committee and will be learning more about how to do this better at the 2-day training. WIC survey: Alida Alida reported that WIC collects some information about their clients that might be useful to us. From their information, we should get a good estimate of about how many teen moms we have in the county and their education level when they came into WIC. There was discussion about other pieces of information, such as whether these moms were married, whether they still attended a school, and others that we hoped to get from WIC. We were not sure WIC collected that data or if we might ask them to survey their teen moms for us. Resignations: Alida The group received the resignations of ??? and Gene Black. Leadership election: Jay Yolanda Garcia and Maria Rodriguez volunteered to serve as Co-chairs and the group agreed to this. Committee membership additions: Jay Jay asked for ideas on inviting other people to join the committee. It was decided to invite Gail Balzano and a few of the teen parents that committee members are aware of. Alida said that the students could be paid a stipend of $15 for each meeting they attend. There were several suggestions on how to involve teen parents in the group, including committee members sharing our work with them and getting their input outside of our meetings. Systems Change Training: Oct 28 & 29: Jay Jay talked about the intensive "kick-start" Systems Change Training that wouls be held at the Tucumcari Convention Center on 28 & 29 October from 9am to 4pm. Lunch will be provided. Beth Leopold, State IHI Director, brought Systems Change to DOH and will be leading us during the meeting. A sign-up sheet was passed around the group. Coming meetings: All meetings will be held from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the PHO WIC Classroom. o November 13th o November 25th o December 11th Homework: Jay asked everyone to begin to think about the system around pregnant and parenting teens, seen from their eyes, and to bring rough flowcharts to the 2-day training. Also a reminder to bring people "in the system" to our Nov 13th meeting to help with flowcharting. 0
