This will be an expansion on the Healthier Communities contract work we did this year in bringing nutrition education and physical activity promotion to families with young children. If you recall, we brought the "Captain 5-a-Day" program to various groups in our area (Tucumcari CACFP, Logan Preschool, and Santa Rosa CACFP). The feedback from this program was excellent and we will be bringing this program, along with other activities and presentations, to more families in the coming year, if our proposal is funded. This year, we are creating activities called "Child Fairs" that we would like to do in coordination with our area's annual Child Find events. Child Find is one of the most successful events in our area in helping families, agencies, and schools come together to determine the specific needs of each young child and match them with available interventions. Our proposed "Child Fairs" will be designed to fill the time that many families must spend waiting for evaluations with presentations, information-sharing, and take-home materials that strongly compliment the Child Find events. This proposal aims to fund the following "Child Fair" activity for each Child Find event: - The "Captain 5-a-Day" nutrition, grocery shopping, and physical activity education program and take-home materials, The proposal also aims to coordinate with other groups to potentially provide these other "Child Fair" activities: - The area car seat program (and perhaps some car seats!), - A child safety program from the DOH Health Promotion team, - An expansion of the immunization services and information often provided at Child Find by area nurses, and - A presentation and handouts on the Child Care Referral Service and Toy Lending Library from ENMU TTAP. We will also be providing coordination services to a "Child Fair" committee that MCCH will sponsor to make these "Child Fairs" happen and possibly coordinate even more activities to make the Child Find events as useful to families as possible. To help us with our proposal, we would like a LETTER OF SUPPORT from your organization. In your letter, we would like you to mention the support you already give to Child Find, such as event space or personnel time, and your interest in providing or supporting the expanded activities and benefits this proposal can provide to the Child Find events. If you are willing, we would like you to also mention your commitment to have a staff member attend meetings of the "Child Fair" committee to help coordinate our activities. We would like to get your letter of support by June 15th so we can include it in our proposal.
