62d There are only a few things to remember about the gopher that aren't readily apparent when using it. First, to advance from screen to screen use space bar. Second, to search a directory or a document, type the forward slash key "/" and then the search string you want to find. The gopher will look for EXACTLY what you type in, so be careful and try it six ways to Sunday before you give up. People who want a client should be referred to the Center for Academic Computing. People who want to add or change a resource should be referred to the appropriate selector. Please send all problems and/or comments to gopher@psulias.psu.edu Patrons CANNOT ftp files, mail things to themselves, or consistently use the bookmark functions. Using PSUVM will solve these problems so anyone with a serious complaint should be directed to using a PSUVM account. Refer them to CAC to get an account if they don't already have one. The reason patrons can't ftp is because they don't have a LIAS account, therefore, they don't have anywhere to send the ftp'ed materials. The reason they can't mail things is they are not authenticated ... we have no way of absolutely identifying them. As an anonymous user, they represent a security risk. Finally, they cannot use the bookmark consistently because it is one public bookmark that erases current entries upon exit and shares all entries simultaneously. If all else fails, type the question mark and READ (gasp) the help file. It may be of some assistance as well. TAH (10/15/93) . 0
