10c7 MORSE v1.20 ----------- MORSE is a little CW training program. It is primarily written for Soundblaster Pro, but it will probably work with other Creative cards (SB16, AWE32) as well. However, I'm not 100% sure. Give it a try, as I use to say :). Please see CHANGES.DOC for the latest changes/additions. IMPORTANT --------- The configuration file format has changed in this version. Therefore, if you have any configuration files from v1.10 (or previous version) you want to use, you have to convert them to the new format with the CFGCONV utility before loading them into v1.11. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Commands -------- 1 Send groups of 5 with random characters. 2 Send variable length groups with random characters. 3 Send text from an ASCII file. C Select which characters to include when using 1 and 2 above. To toggle a single character, just press the corresponding key (As I am from Sweden, the program also includes the Swedish characters , and ). You can toggle whole groups of characters as well: Alt-L Toggle letters Alt-N Toggle numbers Alt-X Toggle other characters and special codes A clarification of the characters used for special codes -------------------------------------------------------- I'm not sure if the characters used in the program for special codes are standard, but here's a list of what they stand for: * Repetition = Break ~ Attention AS (Wait) + End of transmission (dit-dah-dit-dah-dit) @ End of QSO (dit-dit-dit-dah-dit-dah) M Set min/max length for variable length groups. Valid values range from 1 to 80. W Set speed in WPM. Valid values range from 5 to 999. 500 seems to be a good speed to start with for beginners (just kidding). F Set tone frequency for CW and interference tone (in Hz). Valid values range from 10 to 6213. Just for fun... :) T Set CW tone attack/release. Valid values range from 0 to 15. This command lets you set the attack and release times of the CW tone. It acts almost like some sort of "weight" setting, however, the relations between the dit's and dah's don't change. Only the audio characteristics of the tone. Note: When you set attack or release to low values, the tone gets a strange "breathy" character. It is unfortunately un- avoidable, so for the most natural tone, stick with values from about 9 and up. (After all, it wasn't me that engineered the FM chip :)) I Toggle interference tone on/off. H Show/hide sent characters. B Set sample to use for background noise. The samples are located in a file called MORSE.DAT. It is possible to use your own custom samples by using the VOCMASH.EXE program to combine up to 10 WAV files into MORSE.DAT. Each sample should be less than 65535 bytes, have 11025 Hz sample rate, and be in mono. V Set volume levels. Valid values range from 0 to 15. The mixer of Soundblaster Pro is kind of strange; as an example, if you enter a value of 14, it will change it to 15. *In spite of* the hardware registers having 4 bits for the value. It seems that it only uses three bits internally, as the volume only changes on every other value. S Save configuration The following parameters are saved: WPM Character selection Minimum & maximum group length Volume levels Noise type Tone frequencies CW tone attack/release Interference tone setting (on/off) "MORSE.CFG" is automatically read upon start of the program. L Load a configuration file. D Dir, list files in current directory. J Jump to DOS. Q Quit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The program is rather self-explanatory on the whole, so I think you'll get an understanding of it rather quickly. Good luck! Mats Petersson SM5SXL mats.petersson@mbox301.swipnet.se . 0
