A BILL
To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to limit the use of
the common name ``catfish'' in the marketing of fish.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. LIMITATION ON THE USE OF THE COMMON NAME ``CATFISH'' IN THE
MARKETING OF FISH.
Chapter IV of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act is amended
by inserting after section 403C (21 U.S.C. 343-3) the following:
``SEC. 403D. LIMITATION ON THE USE OF THE COMMON NAME `CATFISH' IN THE
MARKETING OF FISH.
``For the purposes of section 403, the name `catfish' or any name
that includes the word `catfish' shall be used only in reference to a
fish of the family Ictalariidae.''.
