Mr. Vitter submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was
referred to the Committee on Government Reform

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Honoring the State of Louisiana's oil and gas industry on the occasion
of its 101st anniversary.
Whereas oil and natural gas are 2 of the world's most important natural
resources;
Whereas the State of Louisiana has successfully achieved a balance between the
development of natural resources and the maintenance of environmental
standards;
Whereas Louisiana produces 27 percent of both the Nation's oil and natural gas;
Whereas there are 5,363 offshore leases for the drilling of oil and natural gas
in Louisiana and more than 27 million acres of the State are under lease
for drilling oil and natural gas on land;
Whereas Louisiana has 130 active drilling rigs, 4,489 producing oil wells, and
3,813 producing gas wells; and
Whereas the year 2002 marks the 101st anniversary of the first oil well in
Louisiana: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
That the Congress honors the State of Louisiana's oil and gas industry
on the occasion of its 101st anniversary.
