Mr. Davis of Illinois (for himself and Ms. Carson) submitted the
following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on
Government Reform

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Supporting the efforts and activities of individuals, organizations,
institutions, and other entities to honor fatherhood on Father's Day.
Whereas children who are raised without their fathers account for 63 percent of
youth suicides, 71 percent of pregnant teenagers, 90 percent of homeless
and runaway children, 85 percent of behavioral disorders exhibited by
children, and 71 percent of high school dropouts, in the United States;
Whereas a father's presence in the life of a child is a powerful deterrent to
delinquency;
Whereas children who maintain relationships with their fathers are more likely
to develop healthy adult relationships and to feel secure regarding who
they are;
Whereas polling data show that Americans believe the most significant familial
or social problem facing the United States is the physical absence of
the father from the home;
Whereas the United States has the highest number of single-parent households
with dependent children of all developed nations;
Whereas children who remain involved with their fathers are 5 times more likely
to develop into productive adults; and
Whereas families in the United States will grow and remain healthier and
stronger if local communities, States, and the Federal Government assist
and support the participation of fathers in the child rearing process:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
That Congress supports the efforts and activities of individuals,
organizations, institutions, and other entities to honor fatherhood on
Father's Day.
