A BILL
To require the Secretary of the Interior to acquire certain land for
the benefit of the Crow Tribe of Montana.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. FINDINGS.
Congress finds as follows:
(1) The Crow Tribal Council approved of the trade of real
estate authorized by this Act in a Quarterly Council Meeting of
the Crow Tribal Council duly called, noticed, and held on the
8th day of January, 2000, and granted authority to the Officers
of the Crow Tribal Council to effectuate the trade.
(2) On the 18th day of January, 2002, in a letter to the
Montana delegation to Congress, the Chairman of the Crow Tribal
Council, Mr. Clifford Birdinground, approved the land trade
between the Crow Tribe and the Royal Crest Dairy, Inc., a
Colorado corporation authorized to do business in Montana.
SEC. 2. ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CROW TRIBE OF
MONTANA.
(a) Authority.--
(1) In general.--Notwithstanding any other provision of
law, the Secretary of the Interior shall acquire the land
described in subsection (b) pursuant to section 5 of the Act of
June 18, 1934 (25 U.S.C. 465) for the benefit of the Crow Tribe
of Montana in exchange for approval of the transfer of title in
fee simple of the land described in subsection (c) from the
Crow Tribe to David A. Miller, DBA Many Creeks Ranch/Miller
Cattle Company.
(2) Trust and reservation status.--The land described in
subsection (b) and acquired pursuant to paragraph (1)--
(A) shall be--
(i) held in trust by the United States for
the benefit of the Crow Tribe of Montana; and
(ii) exempt from State and local taxation
in accordance with section 5 of the Act of June
18, 1934 (25 U.S.C. 465); and
(B) may be added to the Crow Indian Reservation in
accordance with section 7 of the Act of June 18, 1934
(25 U.S.C. 467).
(b) Description of Land To Be Acquired.--The land described in this
subsection comprises the following approximately 242.48 acres located
in Montana:

(c) Description of Land To Be Transferred.--The land described in
this subsection comprises the following approximately 160 acres located
within the Crow Indian Reservation:
