 Mr. Evans (for himself, Mrs. Capps, Mr. Reyes, Ms. Brown of Florida, 
and Mrs. Davis of California) introduced the following bill; which was 
             referred to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs

                                 A BILL


 
     To amend title 38, United States Code, to add the disease of 
 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis to the diseases presumed to be service 
      connected when incurred by veterans of the Persian Gulf War.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. ADDITION OF AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS TO DISEASES 
              PRESUMED TO BE SERVICE CONNECTED WHEN INCURRED BY 
              VETERANS OF THE PERSIAN GULF WAR.

    Section 1118(a) of title 38, United States Code, is amended--
            (1) in paragraph (1)--
                    (A) by inserting ``(A)'' after ``(a)(1)'';
                    (B) by striking ``, if any,'';
                    (C) by inserting ``or in subparagraph (B) of this 
                paragraph'' after ``paragraph (2)''; and
                    (D) by adding at the end the following:
    ``(B) An illness referred to in subparagraph (A) as described in 
this subparagraph is the disease of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (`Lou 
Gehrig's Disease').''; and
            (2) in paragraph (2), by inserting ``as described in this 
        paragraph'' after ``referred to in paragraph (1)''.
