                                 A BILL


 
 To merge the deposit insurance funds at the Federal Deposit Insurance 
                              Corporation.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Deposit Insurance Funds Merger Act 
of 2001''.

SEC. 2. REPEAL OF FRIST AMENDMENT.

    Subsection (c) of section 2704 of the Deposit Insurance Funds Act 
of 1996 (12 U.S.C. 1821 nt.) is amended by striking ``, if no insured 
depository institution is a savings association on that date''.

SEC. 3. MERGING THE BIF AND SAIF.

    Subsection (c) of section 2704 of the Deposit Insurance Funds Act 
of 1996 (12 U.S.C. 1821 nt.) (as amended by section 2) is amended by 
striking ``January 1, 1999'' and inserting ``January 1, 2002.''.
