Abstract

In this talk, I will demonstrate two applications of wavelet transform
on characterization of multifractal signals, and on the analysis of
optical brain imaging.

Multifractals are singular curves having self-similarity properties. 
I will show a robust algorithm to extact the parameters related to
the structure of the multifractal signals using the wavelet maxima
in the scale-space plane.

Optical imaging of intrinsic signals is a recently developed 
in vivo imaging technique that enables the visualization of the
functional organization of the brain with the highest spatial 
resolution. I will show that how a mathematical analysis
can be useful, together with the help of wavelet transform, to
delineate the active brain region robustly and systematically.
