Access the databases from your local library system, or, using your campus network, telnet to OhioLINK: telnet cat.ohiolink.edu login: ohiolink 2. At the OhioLINK main menu, select: Research Databases select: Alphabetical list of all databases Search HINTS * To scan lists of author, title, or subject headings, type BROWSE AU, BROWSE TI, or BROWSE SU. * For HELP or more searching information, type HELP at any screen. For details about an index, command, or other term, type EXPLAIN. To leave help, type RESTORE. * To exit, type BYE, then type YES. Beginning A Search You can search by words in the author, article title, journal title or subject. To begin: Type FIND and press . Then type in a search category (auw, for example) and press . Then type in the search word or words. Type ALL to display all of the records from your search. You must display records to print or send them. Use for forward and BACK for backward to page through the record. To return to the search sets, type HEADINGS. Refining a Search To combine searches, use the "And" command. For example, to find records with BOTH "women" as the subject and "Jones" as the author: 1. (COMMAND:) FIND SUW WOMEN and press 2. Type: AND and press 3. Type: AUW JONES and press or simply type the entire phrase: (COMMAND:) FIND SUW WOMEN AND AUW JONES and press Limiting a Search You can limit a search result by year of publication, language or place of publication. (LIMIT is not available in the History of Science and Technology database.) 1. Type LIMIT then press . 2. Choose a limit category: "LAN" for language, "DAT" for date, or "COU" for country. Type it in and press . 3. Type in the limit information and press . LIMIT Example: 1. (COMMAND:) FIND SUW WOMEN and press 2. Type: LIMIT and press 3. Type: DAT and press 4. Type: AFTER 1990 and press Printing Records You can print up to 50 records at a time on your local attached printer: 1. Display a record or range of records that you want to print: 1,3-6, 27 and press . 2. Type: PRINT and press . 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. Be sure to turn ON continuous printing to print and to turn OFF continuous printing when done. Saving Records To save records from your search, send them to your email account. Type: SEND. Follow the on-screen instructions for selecting records and typing in your email address. Locating Items To locate an item, search for its publication title in the OhioLINK Central Catalog. If you do not locate it, print or note the citation information and consult library staff. LIST OF COMMANDS Type any of these commands at any prompt and press .
