What they have in common: They both picture a possible near-future (earth-centric)universe. Star Trek was all in favor of UNIFICATION: Captain Kirk was all - "Join the UFP!" [UFP = United Federation of Planets.] Captain Mal Reynolds OTOH is against the very idea of unification, and he opposes "The Alliance" all he humanly can. IMHO, this can symbolize the basic conflict between those who favor the forces of "unity", versus the forces who most cherish "individuality". Comments? :) . 0
