I agree that "rerun watchability" is the important test, but after I factor 
the test in, I come to the same conclusion as the original poster - that TNG 
was variable, especially in the beginning and at the end, but the middle 
business (approx years 3 and 4) absolutely ruled.

TNG was my favorite-ever sci-fi series until the recent, spectacular 
entrance of FIREFLY into this horse-race.

Yeah, the TREK franchise has to be viewed in a percentage-batter sort of 
way, but by this standard, they're Pete Rose, by which I mean if you add up 
all the good episodes (and great ones) over the life of the five series and 
ten movies, it's got to be hall-of-fame.
