You may not like the ending, but "Metropolis" is -- without question -- the first SF epic and the greatest SF film of the silent era. Anyone who is serious about SF film *has* to see "Metropolis" as one of the classics of the genre. In spite of the happy ending, "Metropolis" has so much going for it that it doesn't really matter. . 0
