Just like most people know the Skipper name, Jonas Grumby, the : Professor's name Roy Hinkley Jr. and Mary Ann's last name, Summers. I : believe these names were only mentioned once in the pilot. Then there's the : unaired pilot were the 2 girls were secretaries Bunny (Nancy McCarthy) and : Ginger (Kit Smythe), and the Professor was just a high school teacher played : by John Gabriel. A lot of scenes were recycled later in the "new pilot". The Skipper's name is also mentioned in the second episode, "Home Sweet Hut" and the Professor's name is also mentioned in the second season episode "Erika Tiffany Smith to the Rescue" (the one guest starring Zsa Zsa Gabor). As for the pilot plot being recycled, what happened was similar to what Roddenberry did with "The Cage" when it was obvious it could not be aired as a regular episode because of all the changes. In the first season episode "Goodbye Island" the castaways heard over the radio that a group of castaways stranded on an island were being rescued (it turns out it's a different group of castaways on another island). While they wait for their rescue, they recall via flashback, the events when they first landed on the island. Because of the three cast changes between pilot and series, they couldn't show the entire story as originally shot, but SOME of the scene we see in this episode ARE from the pilot, such as Gilligan being dragged across the beach by the large fish he's hooked. Other shots were redone if one of the "new" cast members was needed. So except for the reshot scenes, "Gilligan's Island" did pretty much the same thing with their unusable pilot that "Star Trek" did, and they did it first. Is this where Roddenberry got the idea?
