FWIW, IMHO, McCoy and Spock basically tolerated each other because Kirk loved them both, and he basicaly required them to get along, somehow. I don't think McCoy and Spock would have ever been "friends" if Kirk hadn't demanded it. Whatever "respect" Spock and McCoy felt for each other was IMHO a combination of respect for a comrade, and respect for Jim Kirk's wishes. . 0
