Muldaur asked for and received "special" billing, similar to what Edward Hermann receives today on Gilmore Girls. That "might" have to torqued some of the TNG cast. Her replacing McFadden was Roddenberry's choice, and had he lived, McFadden would not have returned, I believe. Of more interest to me is why so much of the fan community despises Muldaur. Yes, she was a McCoy clone, and yes she lacked a certain warmth, but she was an interesting character, and Muldaur was light-years better than McFadden as an actress. (I just love "..like Achilles sulking in his tent," for example) Muldaur never gave a bad performance on TNG, yet she was gone in a year. Damfino why. . 0
