And why the hell did the writers think they could encounter a 'star void' so large that you couldn't see stars on the other side of it? It wasn't actually opaque; it was just SO FREAKING BIG YOU COULDN'T SEE STARS BEYOND IT! And why did they leave the viewscreen set to 'blackness' if it was unnerving them?
