The "I can't have children" after miscarriages in soaps and the like is ridiculous unless the woman's had some kind of hideous infection as a result of an incomplete miscarriage or something. Of course a medical reason for not carrying to term may be behind repeated miscarriages but that never seems to be the scenario, does it? I agree that it's irresponsible and must cause a huge amount of anxiety in women who have miscarried and might fear the worst. I think the very early pregnancy tests mean that we now know we've "miscarried" instead of just having a late period. I don't know what proportion of conceptions spontaneously abort in the very early stages but I have a feeling that it's quite high. In the past they just wouldn't have registered with us as pregnancies at all but as false alarms (or dashed hopes) because of the wait before a test would give a result. . 0
