If I'm coming home and its dark outside and I don't want bright lights right away, or if I'm just going to be passing through the room to another one, I'll call out rather than turn on the lights. In fact, if I have a class or meeting at night and I come home after 8 the lights on the first floor will be out, the kids will be upstairs in their bedrooms (though most likely not asleep unless its closer to 10) and DH will be downstairs in his den. I simply call out that I'm home, greet the dogs and the cat, take my evening medications, use the bathroom, maybe call downstairs to DH, then stop and talk to the kids on my way to bed. Why turn on the lights if I'm not going to enter or remain in that room? . 0
