A car will generally hit the legs out from under the animal, and the rest of the body goes over the hood and into the windshield. So, the damage is more spread out, and of course the amount of damage varies wildly; My folks hit a deer and critically wounded it in a pickup with nearly no damage to the vehicle, while a friend of mine had a deer hit *him* in a smaller car and the car was essentially totaled. Often the animal will actually go through the windshield and injure and/or kill the driver and passenger. . 0
